Sidewalks of New York," composed in 1894, is a medium swing chart that features the different sections of the band. Sometimes these sections are the main feature and other times part, of a counterpoint movement. This fun quirky treatment of the tune has different phrases "popping out" in random keys. Make sure to emphasize those moments. As in all medium swing charts, strive for the loose "Basie-like" swing feel. The solo section is over a pedal D and a swing section. This charge can function as a chop saver for the brass. This is nothing taxing for the brass range-wise. Also, this chart will work at a variety of tempos.
