The evening prayer “Abends will ich sclafen gehen” is certainly one of the most beautiful and moving pieces in Humperdinck's fairy-tale opera Hänsel und Gretel. The British organist Edwin H. Lemare (1865-1934), famous for his improvisations and transcriptions, wrote an arrangement, following closely the original score and skillfully selecting stops for optimal effect.
